Surfing at Canggu Beach, Bali information 2026 / 2027.

Canggu is one of Bali’s most popular, consistent, and vibrant surf destinations, offering a variety of breaks suitable for all skill levels.

Canggu River Mouth is one of the more famous waves in Bali. Knowing exactly which break matches your ability is crucial, as conditions range from mellow beginner waves to heavy, high-performance reef breaks.

At Lapoint, combine surf sessions with day trips to the island’s bucket list places, group activities, and socializing to your favourite spots in Canggu.

  Best Breaks by Skill Level
Beginners:
Head to Batu Bolong and Old Man's. These spots offer softer, rolling waves and longboard-friendly conditions, making them ideal for learning and catching whitewash.

Intermediates:
Berawa is arguably the best wave for this level. It provides consistent, manageable walls that are great for transitioning to smaller boards, while avoiding the aggressive crowds at the advanced spots.

Advanced / Expert:
Head to Echo Beach (Main/Rivermouth) and Sandbar. These are fast, punchy, high-performance breaks that can form perfect A-frame peaks, barrels, and excellent ramps.
  Your Local Tips & Conditions
Best Time to Surf:
The optimal time to paddle out is in the early morning (before 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM). Canggu is more south-facing than neighboring areas, making it highly susceptible to tradewinds that can blow out the surf later in the day.

Tide Information:
The breaks typically work best on a rising to mid-tide. Always check tide charts, as some spots (like the reef breaks at Echo Beach) can become too shallow or close-out on very low or very high tides.

Crowds & Etiquette:
The lineup can get very busy and competitive, particularly at the advanced breaks. Practicing good surf etiquette is essential to ensure a fun and respectful session.

Hazards:
Watch out for submerged rocks, reef boils, and sea urchins at reef breaks. Always use designated channels (such as the one at Sandbar) to paddle out rather than fighting the impact zone.
